Ruben Amorim secured his first Milan derby win as manager, with his side beating Inter through a tactical display. Amorim grew up in Lisbon supporting Benfica, whose games he attended from a young age, and he also followed Milan from overseas. He said in 2017 that he had watched videos of the Milan side of the late 1980s and early 1990s, featuring Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard and Dejan Savicevic. Amorim said he had wanted to play for both Benfica and Milan, having fulfilled the first ambition as a player, and that he would now need to coach the Italian club.
