Manchester United have collected nine points from their opening seven matches. Extrapolated across a full season, that tally would fall short of 30 points. The figure has prompted discussion about whether the club could be drawn into a relegation battle. The points total covers only the early part of the campaign, so it is a snapshot rather than a final picture.

Why it mattersSitting 17th after nine matches with seven points, 14 behind leader Manchester City, United's start makes the relegation question hard to ignore.
